*snaps fingers* I remember now!
There was one more joke in Starsky and Hutch that I was the only one to laugh at in my theater, so I wonder how many people got it... since it's another joke you had to be around at the time to get.

It was the reference to this new kind of cocaine... i.e., "New Coke"... and how it was sweeter. For you young'uns, one of the most misguided product improvement attempts in history was Coke deciding to make a new version of Coke, called, yes, "New Coke", and it took place in the 70's, if I remember correctly. Needless to say, it fell flat. Kinda like the Edsel. So the screenwriters obviously had this one joke in mind the whole time they set up this part of the plot, with the coke that has no smell and tastes like sweetener and is called "New Coke". I laughed my head off - in complete silence. *reddens*

Then again, I was watching it in a second-run movie place that allows you to sit at a table and order drinks and food while you watch. A good concept, and very comfortable, but they charred the burger, so that it was inedible. So it was a small crowd, probably <50, very mixed. Still... nobody else laughed at that! *feels like a geek* *G*

I remember New Coke! But I thought it was the 80's... (?) I can't believe nobody else laughed at that one. :)

I remember it as the 80's too. No-one else laughed? Were they paying attention?

Okay, I did not get that. :D Thanks for pointing it out.

I knew about the David Soul song, but that's just because I'd read about it.

I'm surprised some people haven't asked "what's an Edsel?" lol

don't worry, I know what an Edsel is. *hides my birth certificate*

I remember NEW COKE. Didn't really care for it. I do remember that they ended up marketing for both.

*G* You're welcome - and thanks for the cute "Gandalf for President" icon. *S*

Darn... I bet "New Coke" would be a collector's item now...
