Bang Bang... I shot you down... - "You didn't hear about the polar bear?"
Bang Bang... I shot you down...|
Whew! 3 movies this weekend:
"13 Going On 30" - funny, cute, has Andy Serkis (whooot!), and Mark Ruffalo (cuuuuute! and linked to Elijah Wood through ESOTSM) - good, light fun that you can see with just about anyone, and is especially good for all of you who love to reminisce about the '80's - thumbs up!
"Kill Bill Vol. 1" - *LOL*! Sooooooo much a '60's homage! Some great, great dialogue and ideas and music - but also an extremely high degree of spatter. Can you say "fountaining gouts of blood"? Sure you can. *S* Can you say "tongue-in-cheek, chop-socky, superchoreographed martial arts fights, interspersed with anime"? Can you say "all of Quentin Tarantino's guilty movie pleasures rolled up into one movie"? Yep, you sure can! One of the best ideas he had is that he has written this as a series of "chapters", and apparently has filmed each chapter in its own style, while still maintaining an overall consistent feel/style to the whole movie. So - if you can stomache excruciatingly massive amounts of blood, huge numbers of body parts cut off, etc., and have a great sense of humor and nostalgia towards kung fu movies, spaghetti westerns, etc. - go see this. If not - better skip it - it's not for everyone. Thumbs up!
"Kill Bill Vol. 2" - Interestingly enough, my mother saw Vol. 2 without seeing Vol. 1, liked Vol. 2 immensely, but disliked Vol. 1 when we watched it together on DVD. Vol. 1 is more of a chopsocky, cartoon-like, martial arts movie. Vol. 2 has more to do with characters, their interaction, their motivations, etc. It's more of a "movie". Gotta give Quentin credit - he can write some mind-blowing dialogue. And credit to Uma Thurman for eating the character of The Bride alive, to David Carradine for relishing every second he's on screen and making the audience relish it as well, and Michael Madsen for one schizophrenically stupid/smart, remorseful/revengeful, passive/agressive Sidewinder. My hat is off to him for playing one of the most bizarre characters I've ever seen on film. And Darryl Hannah? *L*! Hilarious! Thumbs up!
Allow me to leave you with this quote from "Kill Bill Vol. 2"
You HAVE no future."
And, help me, please... I *cannot* get "Bang Bang... I shot you down..." out of my head! EEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

To bad - I had no time to go to the movie theater the last 3 weeks. I missed Hildalgo (but I hope it will run a little longer, so I can make it) and I didn't watch "50 first Dates" which started last week ... but I saw it in LA ;)
But have a nice weekend with a lot good film ;)
Btw: did you see "blueprint" with Elijah's former girlfriend Franka ?
I do hope you see Hidalgo - it's a good film. Not "great", but good! *S*
No, I haven't even heard of "Blueprint", or any film with Franke. Do you think maybe it's just being released in Europe? What's it about?
(*ggl* - just saw... ummm.... (darn, I can never remember the new title for "Try Seventeen" - I think it's "All That I Want") for rent at the video store. Poor Lij! Can't believe that went straight to video.)

Of course I will see Hildalgo - but I don't know when I can make it to the theater ...
And yes, it is a shame that Elijah's "All that I want" never made it to the theaters. I got the DVD in LA and it is a good film. Love Elijah!
and here is a link to "Blueprint" *s* http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0321473/
Ooooo.... interesting. I do hope this makes it over here!
That song reminds me of Absalom, Absalom! and it really shouldn't. I'm going to see Vol. 2 on Sunday...I ADORED Vol. 1! Such fun.
*L*! So they DO let you out of the funhouse every once in a while. *G* Yes, I thought you'd like it, especially with the anime; I was even thinking about you and how you'd like it as I was driving to the cinema last night.
And then next Sunday... Hellboy? *G*
Hey...you don't know me...I just saw your post from Hobbit_Lusts friends...anyway just had to say totally agree with you on all the Kill Bill stuff! Volume 1 is my favorite movie of all time. Tarantino is the most amazing director ever. I particuliarly love the music and the way he uses it so well to add to each and every scene. I am in love with the soundtracks and play them on repeat. I also find myself singing along to Nancy's Bang Bang I shot you down...all the time!
My favorite quote....
"It's mercy, compassion and forgiveness I lack, not rationality."
Just had to share my love with another Kill Bill fan!
"This is me at my most masochistic."
Like your icon. I thought it was amazing how they had Rin [sic?] jump up on the boardroom table and walk in those tiny little doll-like steps that the Kimono requires and still move like lightning. What a detail to include. And, of course, the later idea of fighting in the snow.
Have to admit, though - I did a lot of giggling in Vol. 2 when I shouldn't have - especially at Pai Mei and that darn beard! *G*

Heh, Quentin himself said in an interview for a finnish newspaper that he has the ability to "make people laugh at things they feel like they shouldn't". Gotcha :-)
Myself I haven't seen vol2 yet. Promised to see it with b/f so I hope it's still running when we see each other again. Got v1 on DVD though and I love it like I love Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. It feels like Kill Bill is somewhat similar to those, only much more so.
Yep - that's it! Just *more* so - *G*.
Oren Ishi is probably my favorite character. Don't get me wrong I love the Bride...but Oren is freaking unbelievable! On the Volume 1 soundtrack they have her little speech, the after she has cut Tanyaka's head off...I find myself receiting it by heart at times! I love it!
I also love it when she walks on the table! And when Oren is like "You didn't think it'd be that easy did you?" and the bride is like "For a minute there I kinda thought so, yeah"
I also love GoGo. Crazy girl that she is.
Oh dear...see where this is going?
I want to be an Assasin!
*looks for an assasination program at her university*
Anyway I could go on and on! But I won't! I'll leave you with the speech I so adore.
"As your leader I encourage you from time to time and always in a respectful manner to question my logic. If you are unconvinced that a particlular plan of action I have decided isn't the wisest, tell me so. But allow me to convince you. And I promise you right here and now no subject will ever be taboo. Except of course the subject that was just under discussion. The price you pay for bringing up either my chinese or amercian heritage as a negative is I collect your fucking head. Just like this fucker here. Now if any of you sons of bitches have anything to say now is the fucking time! I didn't think so."
*runs to watch Kill Bill again*
Yep - some absolutely unbelievable lines, speeches, actions in those movies. Quentin was obviously having the time of his life writing and directing it! *G*
oooooh 13 going on 30 has 80's stuff, excellent, I shall definately be there:)
*L*!!! But, wait! It's a (dramatic pause) Romantic Comedy! *G* Are you sure you want to go? *L*! Naaaaaw, don't worry; I think you'll like it anyway. *S*
Hey - is the guy in your icon the one that finally got laid? *G*
|Date:||April 28th, 2004 06:10 am (UTC)|| |
Nope, that's not Teal'c. Teal'c is big, dark-skinned and has a golden mark-thingy on his forehead. Oh, and he's bald.
That's the squad's captain, or at least used to be when I still watched the show. I can't recall his name though, but I'm pretty sure he's got laid.
Ah - that makes sense. He's a bit... intimidating; I can see why he probably didn't get a lot of action. *G*
This is Teal'c and yes I do think he is sexxeh! I need a good body pic of him though, and then you would see!
The other one is Daniel he is tres cute (and Thomas Robins and he look strangely alike!)
teehee, I did like The Wedding Singer (but only for the music not going all soft on you) and that had Adam Sandler in it!!!!
