Stardust and Bagpipes
So, what's the feeling on the street about "Stardust"? I don't remember reading many people talking about it on LJ as it was being made, even though it's based on a Neil Gaiman book. Mostly positive reviews on www.rottentomatoes.com, although this one made me grin:

"A supernatural fantasy action adventure whose combination of whimsy and gothic melodrama seems to have been cobbled together from focus groups held at Comic-Con and Renaissance fairs." *L*!

And apparently there was recently a piping competition held in Glasgow. Compared to Kelvingroove, a concert held at Kelvingrove last week that Beecake played at, that had such bad rainy weather that only 700 attended, the piping competition apparently had 40,000 spectators!: http://www.sundayherald.com/news/heraldnews/display.var.1612363.0.40_000_flock_to_piping_contest.php

This bit sounded a bit scary, though - *G*:

"This year, even novices were given the chance to try their hand at piping in the Pipe Idol competition."

Owwwww!!!!! *covers my ears*

And 8,000 pipers - that's a LOT (too many? *G*) of pipers!

Yes... the promos aren't really getting me very excited. The saving grace may be if there's enough clever humor in it - like "Princess Bride". Let's hope so! I'll be interested to see your review.

I'm going to see Stardust too, based on my adoration of the novel-with-illustrations. If any of Charles Vess' visual style comes through it'll be a win for me. And Gaiman's a great storyteller.

'Pipe Idol'??? O.O

I haven't seen anything of it here in Belgium yet, though it's definitely on the must-see list if it ever gets here - or gets to our local cinema - they seem to skip some of the big ones, we never saw a whiff of TMNT, sadly.

I read the book - not as clever as some of his other stuff, but a lot of interesting detail, and it featured Baba Yaga! How cool is that?

Yeah... you're really missing out on some of the "great" releases this summer. *rolls eyes and sighs* In fact... I think it may already be coming out on DVD!

I've not seen anything about how it is, but I've wanted to see it for quite some time now. Sadly it came out the same time I ran out of money.
*sigh*

But I'm excited.

Also I've been thinking about you a lot recently.
Love ya!

Not quite, but there's twists. It's Neil Gaiman, so of course it's not "normal". LOL

And snarkiness abounds, which is something I like in these sorts of movies.

Really looking forward to Stardust when it gets released here in October (what's the deal with that, a UK film released in the US first!?). Michelle Pfeiffer in an evil role, great stuff!

Hmmm... at least 2 US actors, though, so probably US studios involved; maybe that's why!

p.s. I just tried access a post of yours through my email and it said your posts were readable by friends-only. *sob* Ain't I still your friend? Or is it because I'm doing it through email?
