This is the new series that Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver are in. It's just finishing up, and it looks terrific. I don't consider these spoilers, but just in case, I'll put this under an lj-cut. (sorry for all the spamming; it'll go on until the ORC stuff is all up)
Gotta love a series that opens with Gomez ("How We Operate" - *G*) and ends with Bob Dylan ("Shelter from the Storm"). And Eddie - despite the fact that he's doing a "House" and doing an American accent - is brilliant.
Eddie is the head of a family of "travelers" (another name for British gypsies) in America, living in a trailer, and on the way to pick up his wife (Minnie Driver) from prison, where her term just ended. They pretend to be guests at a homecoming (and wedding) and "pick up" gifts" along the way. Before picking up Minnie, though, they get pulled over by a policeman - which is how wer learn they're travelers, since he can tell who they are. They get away, but lose the gifts.
Minnie is upset at her poor reception when picked up - only to find that there's a large convention of traveler families gathered to welcome her home. We find out that live with the traverlers is not simple. There are feuds between families, and a new head of the travelers. Eddie makes off with some of the head of the travelers' money. Later they meet up with another family of travelers who catch onto the fact that they're plush, and want in on it. This turns into a road race. Somewhere in the middle of it all, another car gets forced off the road, and the drivers are killed. The family shows their humanity, but, in the end, Eddie realizes they have an opportunity to move into the house the other family was going to move in to... and impersonate them. The neighbors, realtor, etc. don't even know them.
There ARE complications. Minnie picked up a drug habit in prison, which only the daughter knows about. The son feels guilty about the whole thing. And the dad? Hell, he just managed to hustle his neighbors at golf!
In other words - this family is going to find out how "The Riches" live.
OOOOO!!!! And now I'm seeing an ad for "The Race" - with Nathan Fillion! It's coming up on FOX.
Life... is good.
