A plea for help from the computer/internet/video-savvy among you|
I have very little experience in posting videos.
Basically, I've used YouTube, which is fast, but apparently the way my camera records videos is not compatible, because the picture and sound become out of sync - so that way is out.
I'm trying to use yousendit, but even though I've upgraded, it gave me an error message after I uploaded the second video, saying it couldn't send it because I'd exceeded my 4 Gb capacity (with two 100-200Mb videos?). Plus, it takes forever (at least 30 min) to upload one video. I'm trying it again... we'll see. [ETA: Perhaps it took a while for the upgrade to kick in; it just accepted one of my uploads]
So, I'm open to suggestions from those who have done this a lot and know the best way to share videos.
I also want to know: can you zip videos, and is that the smart way to upload (and make it easier to download) these? Thank you! [ETA: I went and zipped one, but it seems to be taking just the same amount of time to load up to yousendit. Or, maybe not. Yousendit seems to say it takes 20 min for the regular files, but it seems to take more like 40 or 60 min, whereas the zip file took about 20 min in actuality. I'll try a zip for the next file I do.]
Also, a very generous person offered to host videos on her website, and gave me the info to upload them myself, but no luck so far. Once I get some more help from her, they should be up!
I slept late Sunday, and then just sat in the lobby. I thought I'd be on the computer, but instead, because everybody coming down on the elevators and going to the Con walked by, I got to talk with and say hello and goodbye to lots of people. It was wonderful! I then spent the rest of the day traveling, getting home at midnight. I slept until 11 am today, and have been cleaning up, feeding the cats, etc. No chance to edit photos or post videos until now. Hopefully, with help, I'll find a good way to get the videos up, and also have time to edit some pics to post.
Take your time. Breathe (Billy talks a lot about breathing in his songs ;-) )
Your stuff is always worth any time it takes you to get it edited and posted!
Will do - *G*. I guess there always feels like a little competition when you're trying to get these up, you know "I want people to see mine! It's the best!". *breathes* But it doesn't really matter. What matters is that, hopefully, the people who want to see them find good videos, no matter whose they are. I'm looking forward to some of the stuff from the other folks who were there.
If you don't have any luck with your friend, I could host them too, you could send them to by by MSN or something. Just tell me ;)
Have you tried Photobucket yet? That's where the BBB has all it's video's.
I should have thought of that - thanks!
I like MediaFire
, but they have a 100MB file size limit. You could also upload them to your LJ Scrapbook, and folks could download from there. They don't publicize the fact that it supports video formats, but it does, and you should have plenty of space on there with your paid account. I've uploaded a couple of Spiglet videos on Scrapbook, and it was easy.

Maybe Beastybunny at The Crumpet Shop would post them for you. I've always considered it the go-to site for Billy videos. I'd offer, but I tried uploading one to my server last night and it just wouldn't work. Sorry. :)
Oh, that was so nice of you to do! And I apologize for not thinking of your site; I should have. Perhaps after I hear from Rakshi, she can suggest how it works for you, too.
The biggest problem is just getting them on the net; then any site can have them.

I just thought of another way I could try....I'll let you know if it works. :)

Okey-doke, seems to be working, it's just going to take an age to upload.(The I'm Sorry vid.) Oh well, it's such a great clip, it's worth it. ;)I'll try to get the others you've posted already up tonight, or tomorrow after work.
No kidding... taking me an hour per video! I've gotten the big ones up now, I think, so... we'll see!
zipping videos won't make them smaller - the purpose of zipping is so you can bundle more than one thing together (like all the songs off of an album, or a bunch of photos) so those uploading them can do it all at once. the file size does get compressed slightly, but not enough to make uploading them any smaller. it sounds like your trouble really is your internet. if you have a slower connection (dial-up versus dsl), anything you do is going to be slower. it'll probably take you just as long to get the videos to Rak than it will for you to upload them to yousendit.
i've saved the videos you've put up so far, by the way. they're wonderful, and have really helped with the post-con blues. thank you so very much!
Darn... it's a cable connection, but still slow. I did try again, and it does seem that it makes it a little faster. We'll see - *G*.
So glad to hear that! I know they've got me humming the tunes, especially the new ones, which I love.
I joined MegaUpload (the free version) and had no problems uploading my video files - there's a 500MB limit per file, and I obviously didn't reach the total limit as it was still chugging away merrily right up to the point where I had to pack the laptop. The cable connection at the hotel was pretty fast, too, and was free for this month as they've just changed providers (I didn't find that out until checkout - I was expecting to pay $10 per day). MegaUpload's ads seem to have improved - a few months back it was all porn and gambling, but they seem to be a bit more mainstream now.
Thank you again for sharing all of this. It is much appreciated! I had no problems at all with the zip files. Everything worked splendidly.
Thank you for letting me know they all worked - it's a great help!
