Have a paranormal day!
Today, I experienced teleportation for the first time in my life. I mean, it had to be teleportation - because nothing else makes sense!!! I was driving down to Indianapolis from Chicago, and had gotten out of Chicago into the northwest corner of Indiana, and got onto 65 - the highway that goes non-stop southeast to Indianapolis. I'm driving along, singing along to KT Tunstall at the top of my lungs (not a pretty sight - or sound!), when I start seeing signs that say I'm on an Illinois interstate. Wait... wtf??? To do that, I'd have had to make a sharp right turn and headed due west! And I hadn't left the highway - or had I? Because, sure enough, I was due west of where I thought I was. Worse yet, I kept seeing names of towns like Holland and Lansing - and those are in MICHIGAN. So I wasn't even sure which STATE I was in!

I literally had to get off the road and ask a hotel manager where the hell I was. Turns out I was in Holland, IL, due south of Chicago. I had somehow gotten onto a highway going west, and had driven on it about 15-30 minutes before I realized it.

You have to understand - I've made the drive from Chicago to Indy, or Chicago to West Lafayette (which takes the same route) so many times I can't begin to tell you. I would have had to exit off of 65 and made a sharp turn to get where I ended up, and I don't remember doing that. So, it's clear - I was teleported. Wow.

And, to top that off... I'm driving down the highway when I see one of the plastic poles along the side vibrating furiously back and forth, as if it's in a high wind - or as if aliens are landing (!)... and none of the other ones were doing that. *cues Twilight Zone music*

Things come in threes, you know... so don't be surprised if you hear I've been abducted from aliens in my sleep! *looks nervously around*

In the more normal world: I still haven't really read LJ for the last week; too busy working on my niece's wedding photos every evening, and, of course, that darn thing called "work" taking up my time in the day. Shame on it! But she finally was well enough to go to my brother's house and get on his computer to look at them and she was SO happy she squeed on the phone!!! I have to tell you, that was so wonderful. They (my brother, sister, niece and her husband) were looking at the photos on the computer when she called and it was so cool hearing their reactions. Then my sister-in-law called me later and was so sweet: she said she'd gone back and looked at the photos from the wedding of a friend of my niece's, that she's borrowed for me to look at to get mentally prepared for the wedding when I got there, and said mine were 10X better - and that other photographer should go back to school - *L*! I tell you, that makes the hours of going through the photos all worth it. I've finished the photos of the bride before the wedding, the photos of the groom before the wedding, the photos during the ceremony, and the photos just after the ceremony. I still have to do all of the reception, and then go back and do the wedding rehearsal, and some of the photos I took on the fly. So when I'll catch up on LJ, I have no idea - sorry! It's going to be a challenge for me to keep up now that I'm back on a job. Anyway, I hope everybody is well and happy.

And... watch the skies!!!!

I have done this exact thing. And I think it's really a highway induced trance. Seriously. I've "woken up" at a T intersection in the middle of Kentucky when I was supposed to be in Tennessee. It happens. It's just funnier when it's a trip you've made a thousand times. Like the time I was driving to Chicago and went around Milwaukee and somehow ended up going north on I-43. Bzuh? I just chalk it up to inattentiveness and appreciate that I didn't run myself into the median.

The pole though, that's pretty strange. Keep posting so we know you haven't been abducted!

*L*! Still here... for now...!

I kept staring at those poles the whole way back and... nothing! I keep thinking of a ground hog digging furiously underneath it, but I think I get that image from cartoons.

On my way back, I looked, and the road forks at the Marriott Star Plaza - two lanes go right onto 30, which goes due west. I'm thinking that's what I took - god knows how!

{odd smile} Weirdness followed by oh-so-neat-ness. Now that's quite a post! {SMILE}

I wish I knew what to say about the teleportation... except I think that's been perfected by one of Dad's cousins. I don't visit her often, but when I did, she got lost at least once on every single drive! {amused look}

I love your niece's reaction to your pictures. {SMILE} Your sister-in-law's reaction was pretty nice too... but squeeing over the phone! That's the best! {REALLY BIG GRIN}

I do love both concert and con reports, tho I haven't heard much about either Bon Jovi or ELF yet. {smile} Actually, I'm surprised my friends-list hasn't said more about ELF. Okay, so 2/3rds aren't particularly oriented towards either LOTR or LOTR-actors... the other third are. {chuckle, smile} Yet they haven't mentioned ELF much, either. {puzzled smile}

*insert Twilight Zone music* Ah yes, things do always come in threes. Not sure if you'll be abducted by aliens, but be VERY wary if you start finding very large seed pods strewn around in the morning.

You need my icon. Seriously, that is freaky! I've had my attention wander while I'm driving before, and I pull in my driveway and realize I can't remember doing all that driving. But ending up in the wrong state? You need to rest, honey. :0) Living in Michigan for 20 years, if I'd have seen signs for Holland and Lansing, I'd have kept right on going if I was in my driving trance.

Congrats on those wonderful pictures. You have such a talent!

I love your icon! That must be where I did my teleportation jump! *L*! On my way back, I found a fork in the highway at 30, and 30 goes west... bet I just was in the wrong two lanes, and it didn't feel like an exit.

Thank you!

Hi!!! Glad you got onto the right road before you ended up in Michigan - I can relate, since that sort of thing has happened to me (probably much more often than to you). Perhaps they changed the highway at that point, making it easier to get lost onto the westward thingie?

Anyway, it's good to see you. Go Ros, Photographer Extraordinaire! *hug*

*cough* I think I just spaced out... found there is a "fork" where two lanes go one way and two go another, so it wouldn't have felt like an exit.

It's good to hear from you! How's work? and did you find a good place to live? That's fabulous about the wedding photographs turning out so well and your family appreciating them so much - but we hadn't any doubts!

I've spaced out on the road too - there's a name for it, isn't there? Highway hypnosis? The only remotely paranormal thing that happened yesterday evening was the swift and complete disappearance of the fireflies - but maybe that was the rain. And don't worry - we won't have any extraterrestrial landings here - too many airports!

Are you going to Bristol on the 15th?

Work's interesting... *G* Good, but it's a challenge; I'll have to talk about it in a future post.

Your comment and something Dee posted is the first I'd heard of it! I haven't been able to keep up on LJ. I was sure I had my outfit with me, but how I can't remember where it is.
