Fun With Lyrics
A couple of my favorite off-beat references in new songs... *G*:

From Snow Patrol, "Hands Open" - a mention of one of hobbitgrrl's favorite singer-songwriters:

"Put Sufjan Stevens on
And we'll play your favorite song;
"Chicago" bursts to life, and your
Sweet smile remembers you..."

And this, from a new song by Morrissey with a Middle Eastern feel; he changes the chorus to this at the very end (sombody will have to help me with this, I don't remember the exact lyrics):

"I hope god watches over you,
As long as the USA doesn't bomb you"

(*meep*! Good hit, Morrissey)

Hehehe, I had actually heard of that song (though not actually heard it). Pretty awesome.

And yeah, I have a whole playlist of songs that have killer lyrics like that Morrissey one. Heh.

*L*! An SS icon - cool! So, dumb question... he's from Chicago, right? Now I have to get that album.

Damn awesome. A band composed of Irishmen who met and formed in Scotland referencing an obscure song about Chicago? Wow.

Actually he's from Michigan originally (his first "state album" was Greetings from Michigan), but I believe he lived in Chicago for a period of time. I do highly recommend Illinoise, though! :)

*G* That one sticks in my mind, because I remember picking it up long ago and going... wtf? Is this a joke? *L*! And then I heard you talking about it and realized it wasn't.
