Got to see "On a Clear Day" yesterday with Tig - finally - yay!!!! A lot of good parts in the movie, but I'm not sure how well it all held together and gave a cohesive feeling, which I assume is the director's fault. But Billy was great, and all the individual performances were great, and thank heaven I finally got to see it, because this is probably the last week it was playing anywhere in Chicago.
Tonight I hope to go see "An American Haunting", in which James D'Arcy ("Pullings from "Master and Commander") plays a schoolteacher in the 1800's, and family experiences a deadly haunting. Ooooooo.... *G*
hobbitgrrl, I made reservations for 4 (you, me, aliste, and possibly Tig) at Uncommon Ground at 7:30 pm on May 23. That'll allow us to order dinner, watch the opening act at 8 pm, and watch COMMON ROTATION WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! at 9 pm. *G* Are you on their mailing list? They now have a songbook out! *G* I hope I remember to buy TMBG tix tomorrow morning for their show at the zoo.
In other concert news, Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode has laryngitis, poor guy. They had to cut the show in Kansas City short last night, and cancel the show here tonight in Chicago. So send good thoughts his way, freakspawn.
So, I don't remember when I last updated, but I guess the short version is that everything's gone really well, and I'm doing okay, but I'm worried about buying a place.
The long version is that the move went great. I got almost all the stuff that was stored in paper boxes moved and consolidated into plastic bins, and got rid of two wardrobe boxes of old clothes and a few xerox boxes of old videotapes. *G* A bunch of people from work wanted to have a goodbye lunch with me at my old place, which was really unexpected and sweet, and the couple that I'm friends with cooked me a steak dinner - both on Friday. Saturday I got tons done around the yard, including pruning maple branches that were rubbing on my roof, took photos, and so on. Sunday it took me forever to mop up the basement, though, and apply Miracle Gro and Round Up where needed, so I didn't leave until 3:30 pm, which meant that I ran into the weekend traffic and didn't get in until 8:30 pm. Had orientation on Monday, and got to leave a little early - because I look so tired. *G* The rest of the week has been spent reading training materials, meeting people... and trying to get used to being treated nicely. Seriously! People keep saying nice things to me, especially my boss. I'm getting worried that she may have too high a regard and expectation for me, because she keeps saying what nice things other people have said about me - the guy I used to work with said I'm a good communicator, I do a good job with talks, I can troubleshoot, she's glad I have a sense of humor like the engineers I'll be working with, and so on. *crosses fingers* I hope I end up liking what I'm doing, and am as good at it as I need to be.
But right now, what would really help would be to find a house I can fall in love with. It would help me feel more settled and happy about being here. The cats are doing surprisingly well (bless them!!!), and the little apartment I'm in is pretty comfortable, and I've got everything I need for the next couple of months, so I can focus on my job... once I find a house. *G*
Anyway, that's me gabbing away! Once again, I'm way behind on reading LJ. I'm going to try to keep up, but I may have to end up skipping most of what was written this week - sorry! Oh, and I'm being very good at work so far; no LJ, except for what I get through Yahoo mail, which I do allow myself to check.
This weekend my realtor can take me around for a few hours, so I'll get my first look in person at what I can afford. And I need a haircut! Next weekend, I drive down to Indy to check on the house. That's it! *G* Hope you all are doing well!
