Gilly, remember how we were "casting" MAC with LOTR actors, and I suggested Andy Serkis for Killick?
Well, I'm reading along, and, lord if I don't come across some Killick dialogue that IS Gollum! *L*! Here you go:
Killick is hemming a neckcloth for Jack; they've just moved into the Surprise, nothing is where it should be, and Killick is muttering and complaining to himself as he sews:
...His voice diminished in volume, but his nasal whine had a curiously penetrating quality...
"Which there ain't no stern-gallery, sir, now we been degraded to a sixth-rate," cried Killick with malignant triumph. "Stern-galleries is for our betters, and I must toil and moil away in the dark."
"... all wasted, none tasted, all gone into the bilge," he repeated with a lugubrious sigh. "My preciousssss! Nasssty hobbitses..."
*ggl* Okay... I added those last four words on - *L*!
And - can you handle this? I just realized who Babbington reminds me of? YES!!!! BINGO LITTLE!!!! Heck... wasn't Fanny one of his many loves, too????? *LOL*!!!!!
Oh... and on a more touching note... Jack's going over to the Admiral's ship in a barge... they can hear the little pug howling for his dying master... and Bonden "blunders for the first time in his life as captain's coxswain"... almost made me cry. (but also confused - did he blunder AS he hooked onto the entry-port, or was using the entry-port (as opposed to what?) a blunder? not clear) Anyway... just one of those little touches.
*G* Oooo! Want to see it.
If I could, I would love to ask Peter Weir why he picked Billy as Bonden, after seeing FOTR. Wouldn't you? *S*
I loooooove that icon.
YES! He's a bit of a champion in the fleet. Very late in the books he also competes in a fight.
Oh, that is just priceless!!! Ah, Killick, how I LOVE yoooouuu.
Babbington reminds you of Bingo? Ahahaha! Naw, Babbington is all about the lust, at least Bingo does love. AHAHAHAHAHAHHA That's briliant, though.
I was confused about the Bonden thing as well, so I can't help you there, but yes, such a touching moment. :( Poor Admiral. *hugs Bonden*
*stays away from the dog*
Awwww... but, can it all be lust, if Babbington is interested in FANNY? I mean, really!
*turns red with the effort of not laughing out loud*
No, no, you're perfectly correct. Babbs is only interested in Fanny.
I mean, COME ON!!!! I just finished reading where he gallantly transported 38 LESBIANS!!!! *G* God, I can't believe O'Brien stooped so low as to have fun with the language like that... *sigh*.
Wonder what exactly those obscene hand gestures looked like...!
Actually the bit that amused me most there was Jack's response.
"You are becoming an authority on the motions of Greek women, it appears."
"Oh sir," cried Babbington, his voice growing shriller still. "I know you do not like women aboard --"
"I believe I have had occasion to mention it to you some fifty or sixty times in the last ten years."
"But upon my honour I am blameless in thought, word, and deed. Well, in word and deed, anyhow."
I love that he feels close enough to Jack to say that last bit, I mean, Jack being the superior captain and all that. No ceremony at all, it's wonderful.
Well, in word and deed, anyhow
I know - I was rather scandalized that he said that to Jack - *L*!!!!
Poor Babbs... late to all the fun due to a good deed, AND yelled at for it!
BUT in the company of a couple of dozen beautiful women, you can't say fairer than that. *laughs*
I love Babbington, I honestly do.
And the great thing about Jack is that he DOES apologize for it. Gruffly. *S*
has been discussing MAC, too.. but - WARNING - she's further ahead!
OOH!! OOH! How much further. I don't really want to spoil myself. *blush* Half the fun in reading is that it's all so unexpected.
(Though sometimes spoilers can be fun. I keep waiting for Diana to get pregnant and it just does. not. happen. haha!)
Ack! *gets with the reading... and the book hunting*
Mmmm... great... icon! *G*
