"Jules Vernes' Mysterious Island" - on Hallmark right now. The kind of movie where two castaways sit around a campfire, a beautiful foreign woman and a brave soldier. As they talk about what they miss most, she says "her husband". But after the handsome soldier tells a "heart-rending" story about the death of a young soldier, the woman leans over and kisses the soldier passionately... and goes on... and on. After she just said how much she misses her husband. *puzzled look* Guess those foreign women have no morals - tut tut! *rolls eyes* And the young soldier? A boy who could "run like the wind". Ummm... no... more like a pudgy kid you wouldn't send on a mission like that in a million years. *rolls eyes* Of course, the woman's daughter meets a strange man on the island just afterwords. Immediately after learning he's a pirate, she notices it's going to start to rain - and accepts his suggestion to go to his place for shelter, as if somebody said "would you like some tea?". *rolls eyes. Of course, nothing happens to her. Oh... and she has this gold medallion around her neck that the pirates want. How original! One redeeming feature... the head of the Marines from Master and Commander is in it! Not till almost the end - but it was great to see him.
Anyway, Patrick Stewart is Nemo, who lives on the island. Roy Marsden (fomerly "Adam Dalgliesh") is his imposing manservant/righthand man. Kyle McLachlan is the brave, perfect, yet sorrowful former Civil War soldier. There's also the requisite absolute coward, and a man who I assume is a former slave... who hasn't said a word the whole time. And a pirate captain who sounds like a parody of pirate captains. This. is. terrible. I should really be at Irishfest instead, but I just don't feel like going out tonight. *lazy*
*ggl* The pirates have bright fakely dyed feathers on their heads! *L*!
Hey - and don't forget!!! Monday is Sept. 19 - Talk like a Pirate Day!!!!
