ATTENTION!!! It's time for the Exhibition!!! The LOTR Exhibition!!!|
I've been remiss; I should have done this a month ago, but, as you know, it's been a difficult time for me at work.
Anyway, the exhibit is coming, the exhibit is coming!!! Yes, the LOTR Exhibit is making its very last stop in the United States, here in the great city of Indianapolis - and you're all invited to come. *S*
The exhibit runs from Oct. 6, 2005 to Jan. 3, 2006.
I'm assuming the best time to get everybody together would be October. It's a beautiful month for driving, what with the fall colors and all, and we don't have to worry about the big holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmans.
I'd really love to have you all here - I'm serious! I have plenty of room in my house, and two bathrooms - and I'd love all of you to see Guilford Smial. *S* Of course, I realize some of you may have already seen the exhibit elsewhere, or might be able to get free for the weekend, but I hope you can.
So - this is the official start to getting everybody together! The first task - to see who's interested, and pick a weekend. I'm going to attach a poll here, if I can figure it out (*G*), but I'd also love to hear from you in a comment - about whether you'd like to come, any special reasons for preferences, and anything else. I'd like to try to decide soon, in order to insure that we can get tickets.
*bounces* I would love to see you all!!!
p.s. The poll won't allow multiple choices, so vote for your favorite, but list all the ones good for you in your comment. Thanks.
If you would like to attend, which weekend(s) would work for you?
October 8 (Columbus Day Wknd)
I think, because of ZebraCon, Karen said we have to do early November instead. I'll ask her, but I'm pretty sure that's what she said.
If you do come at another time, you're still welcome to stay here. *S*
the convention we all either run or work at here (Karen is the con chair). Started out as a Starsky/Hutch and Professionals convention, but is more general media now. Held every other year, in odd years, but they've recently decided that 2007 will be the final one.
Oh, that's right... sorry, you described it to me before. *G* Hope you have fun!

I really can't on the 15th as that will be the day of our Starved Rock Moot/Scavanger Hunt.
But any other weekend would be ok.
awww, I wish I could go, Michigan is close enough to Indianapolis to drive to! I saw it in Boston last year, it was great! Alas, I am too broke! :(
Columbus Day sounds the best 'cos SB has the long weekend, but others would probably work too - we're not too far away. Am I reading this correctly - are you getting a block of tickets? If so, bless you - and you're right, we need to figure this out now. *hugs*
Yes! To make sure we can all get in at the same time. *S* Yay! Would love to see you. *S*
This may be of interest... posted in one of the LOTR yahoo groups:
"I met again with the Indy museum this Saturday and here is the
Note taking will be allowed.
Chainmail making demo okayed (Museum getting in touch with SCA);

We think the writing names in runes will be okayed - a slight
communication problem, the person who was supposed to approve wasn't
sure what runes we were talking about... the Museum's Graphic
Department will help if we get the ok.
Costume contests okayed - we will be judges
Acting as tour guides to exhibit in our costumes okayed!
Greeting people at door in our costumes - okayed!
Book reading NOT okayed - Museum is trying to see if reading from
the script will be acceptable.
Sleepins will be on Saturday Oct 15, Friday, November 11 and
Wednesday December 28. The museum is currently working on this
event, the schedule for now is as follows:
7:00 - 7:30. Check-in. There will be live Celtic music and we
will greet participants in our costumes.
7:30 - 8:00 Trivia Contest and Story Sharing

Midnight - 3:00 Exhibit visit, Scavenger Hunt, Costume Contest Awards
Guests can visit the exhibit or take part in a scavenger hunt based
on answers to questions found in the exhibit. Awards for costumes
will be presented at 3:00. The Musuem wants us to look at the
people in costumes during the course of the evening and pick our
winners; there will not be a formal stage presentation. Awards
will be donated by local merchants; all children in costume will get

available (guests will be designated as a Hobbit, Elf, Goblin or Orc
and use the appropriate bathroom - the Hobbit bathroom, etc.)
7:00 - 8:00 Breakfast in Canal Cafe and another trivia contest.
We will be asked to do some role playing for the event.
For example, Gandalf (yours truly) will appear on the third floor
skybridge as the movie lets out, greet participants, urge them not
to take the easy way (the elevators) and direct them into the
gallery. David McDaniels, whom I am working with, will write a
role for you appropriate to your costume.
If you want to participate in your costume, email me with which
sleepin date you want and what your character will be, so I can get
you on the list and David can write your "script".
ANYONE WHO VOLUNTEERS TO HELP THE MUSEUM AT AN EVENT WILL NOT BE
CHARGED AN ADMISSION FEE.
Opening night events are still being planned. What I can release
at this point:
Party for Members Only in Canal View Cafe 6:00 - 10:00 (remember
that an individual membership is only $39).
One of the LOTR movies will be shown before the exhibit opens at
*L*! I had no idea they would be doing such things! Any idea how I can get in touch with this person?
This sounds fantastic. Don't know if anyone else in my family would go for it, but I would love it.
Sadly the first two sleep-overs are cancelled, and Te Papa won't allow costumed greeters, but it looks like Janice is still trying to do as much fun stuff as possible:
Just received word from the Indiana State Museum: Te Papa will NOT
allow any costumed greeters or guides at any of the events,
including the sleepins and the opening. The first two sleepins on
Oct. 15 and Nov. 11 have been cancelled and there will only be one
on Dec. 28; again no costumed guides or greeters allowed, we will
only be able to judge the costume contest.
What will be allowed: There will be a Fan Faire in the Great Hall
from 9:30 pm to 4:30 am for Rings fan groups. Tables and space for
each group will be provided for you to interact with the public.
Please spread the word to your LOTR fan groups if they would like to
For the INDY gather, we are still allowed to attend as guests in our
costumes - we'll work on planning our own events like a Middle Earth
My thanks to all those who volunteered; I know you are just as
disappointed as I am.
ooh sounds amazing! Hope you get it sorted:D
I was just saying to my girlfriend that I needed an excuse to go on a long road trip! You're about 5 hours from here. I voted for the 15th but ANY of those weekends work for me.
Yay! I would finally get to meet you! *S*
Of all my F-List buddies, you're one of a handful who consistently respond when I post something, and you've always been sweet and helpful... so I would love to meet you too!
I talked with my girlie, and she would love to come along, too if that's okay with you. She's a LOTR newbie, but she is most definitely my Sam (and I recently heard her say "It comes in pints?" so she gets the Pip-love too!). She has a seminar to attend on the weekend of the 8th, so I hope you're leaning towards making this moot a different weekend than that....
Were you planning to get the tickets -- and we would reimburse/pay in advance?
And it may end up being multiple weekends, if one date doesn't work for all - *S*.
Hi! Here's a Wisconsin folk replying! :):)
Any weekend in October works for me, actually. Mr. Dee has expressed an interest in coming along too - would that be OK? He says he'd even rather go to the exhibit than to the Renfaire, if he had to choose. We're really excited about this. We probably wouldn't be bringing the shireling since she'd get tired too quickly, but she could stay with my sister-in-law for a night.
Yay! *L*! I didn't realize he'd be interested! *S*
*more hugs for you*
I hope it's not going to be an inconvenience to add a guy to the guests at Guilfors Smial - I'm a tiny bit worried that the rest of the ponypals might feel uncomfy talking about our usual fandom stuff. But Mr. Dee won't mind at all, I assure you. :) Will Mr. Ninque be there too?
I really hadn't thought about it, but, yes, Ninq says he might be coming... along with SB! So, we'll see. Maybe we'll have one weekend be a family one?
Coolness! The "guys" can meet up then! :) A family weekend is a great idea! :)
I live in Tipton, and bought a membership to the museum especially for this exhibit! So Very Excited!!!
*G*! Yay - Indy finally gets something! Although, I can't complain... first Celebration 3, GenCon's going on now, and, next, the Exhibit - it's The Year of the Geek!
