Let's see... this is about the search - for truth.
"All your ring are belong to me"
Where the hell did THAT come from? I'd see it on icons, or in discussions about those terrible "Engrish" subtitled screencaps from LOTR - *G* - but I didn't "get" it. "Oh", a friend explained, "that comes from Homestar Runner! They have a character there who says "All your base are belong to us!"" Okay, guess that's where it came from then; case solved.
And then the other day, I googled "All your base are belong to us", just for the hell of it - and found there's really a much more incredible story at Wikipedia - a neat example of Internet history! *L*!
Sorry if the rest of you already know all this... but it really came from - yes - a horribly subtitled video game called "Zero Wing" (the European version) - back in 2001!!! It became an internet phenomenon, especially after the folks at "Something Awful" tried to find the most creative ways to photoshop the phrase into photos - *ggl*. You have to see some of these - they're hilarious.
But, the Totally Useless Website? It's a great animation clip that starts out with the snippet of the game that has the bizarre phrases in it and then goes on to some of the best and funniest photoshops from "Something Awful" - the beat of a song based on the phrase that will NOT get out of your head. If you love Engrish, video games, or clever humor, try it... please. *G*
Here it is: http://www.planettribes.com/allyourbase/AYB2.swf
And if you want the whole story, go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_your_base_are_belong_to_us
You'll also find links there to the Homestar Runner parody of "All Your Base Are Belong To Us" (yes, there was one), and other strange and bizare creations inspired by the phrase.
p.s. And if I am the last person on the planet to know about all this... feel free to tell me. *G*
