Quick Cat Update
I brought my other cat in on Tuesday afternoon, after realizing that she was showing the same symptoms as the first, only they were more slow to develop in her. Vet says she's lost a pound (!), looked bad, and was very jaundiced (whatever liver problem she has last August is still there in the background, but I think it was exacerbated by whatever's going on now). She said it was a good thing I brought her in.

Just heard yesterday - the vet's been doing "assisted feeding" (squirt very liquid food into their mouths and let them swallow), and it looks like it may have worked in re-triggering their eating response; each of them did some eating over night. She says my cats look much, much better. I get to pick them up after work today.

Whew!

BTW - I was out the last couple of days for (again) a funeral; this time for an aunt. Very nice funeral; huge number of people came by to pay their respects and to attend the mass. I had to do a reading, which was a little awkward in a strange (Catholic) setting, but it went well. Never heard of the source before, though - the "Book of Wisdom"? Any Catholics out there who could clarify what that is? My brother says there are 4 extra books in the Catholic bible, but I'd never heard that before.

And last night: the TMBG concert, with hobbitgrrl and two of her friends - but that deserves a post of its own!!! *G* Oh, and Tig? "Tig! You're it!" *L*! Have a great time tonight - you deserve it. *S*

Yes, there are extra books in the Catholic Bible. I don't know how many, but my sister had been taking classes to convert to Catholocism a few years ago, and I skimmed through her Bible and saw there really were extra books.

Huh!

Gotta say, what I had to read (and what the other reader had) were pretty convoluted - *L*! Good thing we had the text to review beforehand.

Awwwwwwwww... perfect icon! *G*

Good question. We don't know!

Since it hit them both, it would suggest it's something they ate, or were exposed to. It's a mystery worthy of "House". *G* I kept thinking of that show the whole time.

One of my guesses - and that's all it is, a guess - is that I got a bad batch of cans of cat food, because it began about the same time I started on them, and it would have messed up their systems as well as cause them to turn up their noses at the smell of that food again. Or, I did spray Roundup (kills plants, but is very environmentally gentle because it quickly degrades), and perhaps they chewed on some of the plants I sprayed?

The symptoms were constipation, lack of eating and dehydration, so basically they treated the symptoms, since we didn't know the cause, by hydrating and feeding them (as well as a bit of a "clean out" for the first one!).

Strange and scary. I *hope* this was a one-time thing...!

But thanks for asking; sorry for the long explanation.

And "Mo"? Much more fun the second time around. Still have my doubts about his talent for song-writing (!), but he was much more "on" this time. *G*

Never heard of the source before, though - the "Book of Wisdom"? Any Catholics out there who could clarify what that is?

Well, I'm Anglo-Catholic, or at least Episcopalian, but I can try anyway. {Smile} Without getting up to check, the "Book of Wisdom" should be part of the Apocrypha. Those are a set of books (I believe rather more than four) discovered... maybe around the 1800's? So they're kind of like the Dead Sea scrolls, but earlier. Anyway, the Roman Catholic Church promptly added them to their Bible as fully canonical books... I believe appended to the Old Testament.

The Protestants mostly didn't agree. The Episcopalians, for example, decided that while they are probably worth reading, they aren't canonical - meaning we're to take them with salt, or more salt than the Bible proper. {Chuckle, SMILE} If you're curious about them, an alternative to finding a Roman Catholic Bible is looking for a Protestant Bible called HOLY BIBLE with Apocrypha. At least that's how I've always seen them, even tho there are other names for this set than "Apocrypha" as well. {SMILE}

P.S. Since you like the kitty icons, I'll put Alban on. I am glad your kitties are feeling better. {BIG SMILE}

*groan* "with a grain of salt"!

Yes, we were having a big debate over whether these were Old or New Testament. Just strange that I've never heard of them before!

Book of Wisdom Question

(Link)
Ok, I saw your question and as a Catholic I couldn't ignore it. So I took a crack at it with the help of my trusty bible and an official Catholic website that I frequent. This sums up what they both say on the matter:

The book of Wisdom (the full title is "Wisdom of Solomon") is part of the Old Testament, as part of the Deuterocanonicals of the Catholic faith. Orignally these books were texts written in Greek that Jews(these are part of the 39 books of the Hebrew Canon) as well as the Gentiles who liked the morals of these books read and followed. The book of Wisdom blends traditional Jewish material along with Greek philosophy to teach how God rewards his faithful. The Catholic Church offically accepted these books as scripture in 1546 as to be accepted "with equal devotion and reverence" therefore making it part of the scripture. We Catholics refer to them as Deuterocanonical (meaning: canon=law Deuter=second; so made law after the the "original").

Protestants call them the Apocrypha. It has to do with the fact the Martin Luther did NOT regard these books as scripture but just good reading and useful so listed them at the end of his book with an "Apocrypha" superscription. So in the Protestant faith you see these books listed under Apocrypha.

Hi, this is Alice...I just wanted to thank you again for your hospitality since I felt like I didn't have much time when we were there to tell you how much we appreciated it! I'll be sending CDs to you soon (I have your address from hobbitgrrl). Also, I'm friending you, hope you don't mind. Thanks again!

Hello! You know, when you were spelling out your LJ name, I thought "I've seen that name before!" Hey, one of my cats was in the kitchen making strange noises, so I went in to investigate... and he was trying to get the mice out of the bag! *L*! The mice are a big hit - thanks. And no need for a thank you gift of CD's - I had a blast! Thanks.
