Hands across the ocean... - "You didn't hear about the polar bear?"
Hands across the ocean...|
reaching over to grab and hug , , , the Faeries, all of my other friends in Great Britain - and all of London.
I'm a little numb right now; it hasn't quite sunk in. But I'm glad I've heard from anonypooh and freakspawn that they're okay (assumed they would be, since neither works/lives in London, but you never know if somebody might have been there for the day). Has honeyfitz checked in? The Faeries?
The sad thing is, how hard this hits us, when we hear every day of bombings in Iran. It seems wrong to feel this more, but I do; I know the city and it means a lot to me, and I have friends there - plus, there's not a war going on there. I can't imagine what it must be like to live in a country where it's happening all the time... or to have been in London during WWII when it was being bombed from the sky on a regular basis.
I'm thinking of you all, and of the people who are injured or in need of rescue...
pretty sure Honeyfitz isn't in london today, or any of the faeries!
Whew!!!! Thank you so much.
I've been chewing my nails, worrying (about Pooh especially, since we've met). :(
Don't worry... the poohster and freakspawn have posted, and freakspawn says honeyfitz is okay, at least.
Having gotten over the shock a bit, though, I have to wonder... is this Al-Quaeda, or somebody else? It doesn't seem like the attacks on the US, where they hit symbols of power. They didn't even hit the big subway stations (I think) - they hit a couple of specific lines. It seems more like the kinds of bombings they have in Iran, or Northern Ireland - smaller stuff. You know what I mean?
Well, D.C. is acting like it's Al-Quaeda, because there are now agents with submachine guns on all the Metro platforms. If it's not Al-Quaeda, it may well be a faction that's not too happy with what's going on in Iraq, and blame the UK as much as the US. :(
Yes, and I read an article that reminded me that what they did in Madrid was similar to this (I'd forgotten). And it's possible that heightened security around the big, obvious targets has forced them to hit the less heavily guarded targets.
Sad, and stupid, and wrong.
lj has been one big hug today .. thank heavens for it.
thankfully not in the city myself.
VERY thankful. But, because of where you work, I imagine things are pretty crazy! Thanks for posting earlier, so we all knew you were okay.
yup Surrey are backing up the Met Police with lots of special duties now.
Thankfully, yes. *GLOMPS* the Poohwise.
Can I join in? *G* *GLOMPS you both!*
*Hugs* Glad I decided not to visit London today. Still not sinking it how big this is.
I know... I think it will hit me when I watch the news tonight.
Checking in fine, sweetie. Although I'm in the second city and things went on a bit of an alert here, there's been no trouble that I know of. I can't begin to imagine the chaos although trains etc have started running again. It's put my head in pieces and I can't quite figure it all out :(
And what, pray tell, is the "second city", Britain-wise?
Birmingham :) My home city.
*cough* You sure Manchester doesn't try to call itself that? *S*
