Yep, going to Pittsburgh to see Billy! - "You didn't hear about the polar bear?"
Yep, going to Pittsburgh to see Billy!|
But the main reason I'm posting this is to ask for any recommendations people might have for a small digital recorder to take with me. I would only record that segment. Since I doubt these are allowed (and I would do this if it wasn't a special situation!), it would have to be small.
Does anybody have personal experience with such a device in such a situation, or know somebody who has?
Lord knows, I'd much prefer to take photos or video it, but that's just not possible in a dark concert hall, nor would it be fair to the people around me. Perhaps... just perhaps... I'll be able to take photos at the pre-dinner or post-concert party. Cross your fingers, folks!
You might be able to take photos during the bows at the end of the performance as well. Generally, everyone gets to their feet anyway, so you shouldn't be in anyone's way just to take a shot or two.
Strangely enough - that's when I took photos of Ewan McGregor in "Guys and Dolls"! And you're right - he would come out for a bow - thank you!
But I don't think they'd let me take a photo backpack in - do you? Looks like it's time to break down and buy a good little point-and-shoot that I can slip in my pocket...
Oh! Never heard back from you (I think) on whether you'd done any concert photography (for rock bands, etc.), and what the best way to get permission would be. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them - thanks!
Never attempted to get permission. I've done it without, where it's allowed.
I had no problems taking my DSLR camera into the concert in Wellington or Chicago, but I carry it in my bag, not a separate bag.
oh, what I *can* tell you about credentials
At the sporting events I've worked, it's been either an assignment OR a regular press card. I've been able to do them via having an assignment and having the editor help arrange it
I know at movie premieres and such, you need a regular press card. I worked one by having an assignment - it was a small premiere - but in general, no press card, no luck.
You mean, in a handbag? I'll have to give it a try... thanks!
Well, when is the concert? You may be able to talk to aliste
when we come to visit you, since she records every TMBG show she goes to. She does so with a minidisc player and small microphones, but I'll warn you, it's not the simplest thing. But you could talk to her if you want.
*impressed* Wow. Is it small enough to hide?
It's July 23, so that might be just enough time - thanks! Definitely worth asking her about.
It is pretty small, I know she's gotten it into venues where there's "no recording allowed." Acutally, I asked her about it a while ago and I think I still have the email she sent me where she describes it. It would at least give you an idea about whether or not you think it's feasible. Let me see if I can look it up. :)
*G* And I'm so jealous that you got to see him REALLY SING! *G*
Ah, but FIRST he needs to be in "Hamlet" as Hamlet. *nods emphatically*
When? I have no idea what's going on with him recently...
Could you fill me in. I know ELF is going on and I was almost thinking road trip, but I'm a bit lost.
July 22 and 23, Pittsburgh Symphony, doing the Lord of the Rings Symphony! Just google it; you'll get there. *G*
Hey - saw the trailer for Elizabethtown - looks GREAT!
