Email Help Needed - "You didn't hear about the polar bear?"
Email Help Needed|
I'm in email hell right now, and trying to get out...
I couldn't understand a charge on my credit card, and it turns out I've been paying for dialup access to Prodigy even after I moved a year and 3 months ago... so when I realized that, I cancelled it.
Which cancelled my email address. Groan. Because, even though I'm on Yahoo, which is free, it was a "@prodigy.net" address.
So. I found I could get a new yahoo name, and I'd be able to access my old emails. Whew.
But I don't seem to receive emails with the new name. Or the old one.
Those of you who have switched email services in the past - what do I do? Do I need to "set up" my email? I started to, but then it asked for my server name, and how the heck to I know that?
And why, when I start to set up a new message to send from my email, does it still show my old address in the "from" section? And... can I still somehow use my old address, still? Or not?
I feel sick. And frustrated. And stupidly helpless. Anybody out there know what to do? I'd appreciate your help - thanks.
I don't think I can offer any help, but sending hugs because I get traumatized by any new thing I have to deal with on my computer first encounter, so I sympathize. *hugs*
I'll be emailing you to get your snail mail addy because I have pics to send you. I need to send you some in email as well--the pics were just processed big on cd and take forever to send each one.
Do you have dial-up or cable modem?
I find it easier to put pics into a photo album and send people to them, rather than send those BIG pics!
And thanks for the sympathy...
I do have server space thru my mac and earhtlink accounts for that, but it's been so long since i looked at them, it will be more Technological Trauma for me to figure them out again. I will work on that at some point.
*more hugs and tea for poor Ros*
Gods, it's been so long since I set up my Yahoo account... They do take a while to get things together in their system, so you might be seeing some sort of delay there. Who's your internet service provider? That might be an answer to the "server name" question.
I don't think you'll be able to use your old addy - I wouldn't count on it. But I don't know what sort of deal Yahoo and Prodigy have with each other.
I don't know...
My current cable modem is Bright House.
My email is on Yahoo.
My old internet provider is Prodigy.
And I'm sick. And I probably will be going home soon. And I feel so lonely without email! Plus, my landscaper promised me a quote... and said he emailed it... but I can't see it! Damn. I feel very whiny today; another good indication that I'm getting sick.
so - Bright House is who you pay to get internet service?
*goes to look*
Ah. Do you have Road Runner or Earthlink? Do you not want email through them? I know, I know - I have six email addys and that's too damn many - but it's good to have a backup.
I hope you feel better soon. SB has had a gang of viruses attack him, and he's hardly ever sick. Rotten winter. You get into bed.
I don't know... I paid for yahoo, and have 250 mb of storage - yet I can't figure out how to get email through it! It still thinks my email is firstname.lastname@example.org, but that won't work now! damn it, I don't understand any of it.
And Yahoo has no phone number. I can, of course, email them. *bangs head against a wall*
*brings you ice pack, arnica (for the bruise), and tylenol*
No banging head!
Seriously, if you can get another email address through whichever aspect of BrightHouse is selling you internet service, you should do it. They at least will have a number to call, and then you'd have a way to communicate with Yahoo.
If I can help with anything concrete, I'll be here after noon tomorrow. By now I think you're asleep (I hope!).
Can you not go to http://mail.yahoo.com
to access your Yahoo mail?
I always go on the internet to access my mail, I never actually use the mail function built in to my computer, so that's all Greek to me.
But, if you have a Yahoo address, then you should be able to log into yahoo mail at the address I gave you above without a problem.
That's the same place I go to to access my mail.
But my old email addy, which I'll call email@example.com, died when I cancelled my prodigy account. I could no longer get into my account. (Why was I using Yahoo for a prodigy account? Because Yahoo bought prodigy.)
When my email died, I was given an option to have a new Yahoo id - let's call it firstname.lastname@example.org. The message said that I would probably be able to access my old email that way. So, I did. And I can log into my email and read my old email with that. But that's not working as an email address either, for receiving mail. And when I start to try to send a message, it gives my old email address (email@example.com) as the email I'm sending from.
So I'm in email hell. What do I have to do to start up my new email addy?
I don't know.... I'd write Yahoo Support
*G* With my email? *L!* That's what makes this so difficult.
I'll call them tomorrow, but since it's a free service... can't imagine they'd want to spend alot of time helping me!
But it might be a question they've heard before, with a quick fix. I'll hope so, for you.
*hugs and chicken soup*
