#1 best thing about "Slipstream"?

Sean Astin in a pilot's uniform.

*guh*

Love him looking out the window after his "toy" is taken away from him... *G*.

And - Yay! Now Leah's put her cute "Fellowship of the Bags" fan film on the net (from TORn):

'Bags' Site Opens

2/12/05, 11:02 am EST - Xoanon

Leah writes: The Fellowship of the Bags website is up, which tells more about the Fandango parody/Ringers ad that won the award at ORC 2005, shows off some pictures of the puppets, and allows you to download and view the film for yourself (in Windows Media Player format).

Here's the link: http://www.fellowshipofthebags.com/ . (Warning: if you're not from America, where they have a silly commercial for Fandango, a service for buying movie tickets ahead of time, which this film parodies - it's not going to be as funny. *G* Maybe I can find a Fandango commercial on-line, that you can watch first.... *goes to look*)

And you Pony Pals know Leah - remember Daisy Thistletop? *G* Does the nice drawings of the hobbits?

I was bad and was on LJ for the first time that day (my computer's started acting up ever since I installed virus protection on Friday... grrrrrrr) so I wasn't paying as much attention as I should have. Was that the movie's fault, or LJ's? Ummmm.... mixed. *G*

Loved the first part - everything about the bank robbery (although I agree with HC - they're in a circle shooting at each other and nobody gets hit? WTF?). Only complaint - that silly sweatsuit jacket they had Sean in - grrrrr! *G*

Then, somehow the bad guys have an accident and the whole movie just stalls - you know what I mean? Vinnie Jones and his moll get some good moments in, but on the whole, you just don't care. You know that the FBI agent can't bring her boyfriend/partner back to life anymore, so that tension is off, so the need to get the gadget back is gone. In fact, what did she think she was going to do with it? I lost attention there and didn't get back into it until the plane. LOVE Sean Astin in a uniform.... guh! *fans self* Did NOT appreciate him being called "fat", dammit (by Vinnie Jones, when he says he's being crushed in his seat). The rest was pretty cool. *G*

Gotta admit, they made Sean's character rather more odd than you'd think... the bit about "I'm in a plane that's about to go down - this is great!" - ???? I think they could have spent a little more time on his character, explaining just "how" he's odd. All you get to go on is the voiceover (where you find that he is known as "annoying"), and the very strange things he says to the teller (but is part of the reason he's saying them the fact that he thinks he can "take them back" with the machine? you can't tell).

What did you think? *G*

(oh, and - nit-picking... there's a conflict in their "rules" - how is it that, when you go back in time, your body returns to how it was, but your brain and your clothes don't? Should be one way or the other - either you are completely unchanged (but then you won't know you time-traveled!), or you bear the scars of what's happened.)

Well I put a review in my lj, back when I first went to see it....

this is a great review, I suppose the only thing to add really to this, is that in nearly all time travel films you have the body returning but the mind remembering eg Back to the Future....

I know... *G* Doesn't make much sense, but!!! although... hey, in Back to the Future, I don't think they returned to looking the way they did before they traveled... did they? They would come back as whoever and however they were when they left the past. So... if their hair was long in the past and they traveled forward, their hair would be long. This movie says your body goes back to whatever it was at that time.

*L*! I think it was Back to the Future where Doc says that the English language is no good for talking about time travel... and he was right! What I wrote probably just sounded like gibberish! *L*!

:P!!!!

Oh, and some more... Did like the very last scene and how they showed it... (the "reverse jump" off of the diving board... although.... woudn't that short-circuit the time device? *nerd alert!*)

So - pretty good Sean showing! Did a great job, but I think the director kept his character from being as fully realized or consistent as it should have been. And it could have been a really good movie - director had some fun ideas (I think you mentioned similarities to Chain of Fools?) - great use of music, lots of fun with the camera work - but he let it drag too much in the middle.

Needed more Sean. *G*

I found similarities with the special effects on Slipstream and The Dead Zone....
