Damn... am I on a different planet than everybody else? LOST thoughts...
Cut for spoilers

Am I the only one who did NOT like this episode?

"Somebody will die" - and it's Scott? Or Steve? Or whoever? Sorry, but that better not count; they implied that it would be somebody significant.

And here they set it all up... the fact that Charlie has been a scumbag in the past, although part of him wanted to be a better person... brought on by his desire to be able to "take care of" the one he loves... and now he's off to the side... failed to "save" the one he loves (it's not your fault!)... not allowed to help (WTF!)...

And the finally catch Ethan - but we know something has to go wrong... and bangbangbang!!!!

So I'm thinking... The French woman killed him! Either he's not her son, but somebody she hates, or he's her son and she hates him. Come on, didn't anybody else think "machine gun"?

And, instead - it's CHARLIE? Excuse me, Charlie - how is shooting a man once he's ben captured a way of "protecting the one you love"? Seems like a pretty cowardly action to me, not to mention stupid.

So everybody should be ANGRY and DISGUSTED with him and treat him like a pariah, right?

Oh, nooooo.... now Claire's getting her memory back and warming back up to him. That's strange - I THOUGHT SHE HAD SOME SELF-ESTEEM AND A BRAIN IN HER HEAD!

So why is everybody saying they love this episode?

Okay, okay, Dom looks cute when he's picking up the one girl, but otherwise???

I'm with you... I don't like what they did with the character... very frustrating, and it made him look like a complete selfish idiot.

*whew!* Thought I was all alone! Pull up a rock on this lonely little island. *G*

I guess the thing that bugs me is that... they seem to be making it look like what he did was bad - since he's being "rewarded". As if what he did was okay because of the way he felt.

It feels so weird that I almost wonder if Claire... is up to something... buuuuuut that would be a stretch.

That's exactly what I was thinking. But, yes, I liked the episode. Not for the writing, that's for sure, but for... um, just Dom. Although I will be highly upset if that is the extent of Charlie's character. I love Charlie's little crush on Claire, but I also would like to see him reacting to more than just that. I mean, they're lost/i> for bloody sakes.

Yeah - and sorry, I meant to say that they're making it look like what he did was GOOD since he's being rewarded *facepalms* - seems like you understood that somehow anyway.

and yes - MORE! *G*

My mun says that she's no longer emotionally invested in the show, but as she likes the chaps who play Charlie and Sayid, she'll watch a bit longer. Now, if that Jamie Bamber guy were to show up for an episode or ten ... that's a different story.

Hey - isn't Battlestar Galactica starting up again this Saturday?

Maybe he could get caught in a wormhole and travel back through time and crash (safely) on the island...!

Okay, now I gotcha.... ya, I don't think it was a good thing either. Ethan was a maniac, but insane or not, Charlie had no right to kill him. Charlie is now a murderer too. Everyone keeps saying Ethan would never have talked, but that still doesn't give the Charlie the right to murder him.

Exactly. And if I were Claire, I'd be horrified, not thankful. In fact, when I saw her coming towards him, I was dreading how she was going to act towards home and how terrible it was going to make him feel... and instead... meep! *L*!

Hmmmm... sure hope they return to this at some point and talk about it.

I don't think Ethan would have talked. As long as he was alive, he was a threat. Charlie knew that. He was also feeling very responsible for what happened to her before. He kept blaming himself. He was angry at not being allowed to come along on their "mission" to capture Ethan. He was once again brushed to the side. He was dealing with having let down someone else he cared about before, someone who told him he would never be able to take care of anyone ever. He had a lot going on inside of him. And it led to his actions with the gun. I can totally see how it could lead to that.

What I want to know is...Charlie knew how to use the gun, he knew how to aim it...what else is there in his past? Dom said he likes the idea of Charlie being a good guy with some bad in him. How much bad is there? What else has he done we have yet to learn about?

I know... seems that he could have spoken up and said "sure I know how to use a gun" and didn't... and we know he's stolen stuff... what else did he do?

*wonders if Charlie's now broken all 10 commandments! how far he's fallen...*

But to not even argue that Ethan should be killed - just make the decision himself? I don't know.... but you raise some good points.

Oh, you know something else is going on. Either with Charlie (cos yeah, I don't think those gun things are exactly point-and-shoot-and-hit a bunch of times) or Claire or someone else. Maybe Claire did remember something horrible about Ethan and found a way to do him in. We haven't seen her being manipulative yet, but who knows?

The ep was flawed, but it moved the story forward. False sense of security before the ka-ka really flies. (And Charlie was adorable when he was trying to be good.)

*G* He was, wasn't he?

And, yes - that was awfully good shooting for somebody shooting a gun for the FIRST time... hmmmmmm...

These two could be interesting. Neither (as J.J. Abrams likes to remind us about all the characters) is as innocent as they seem...

Hey! Wouldn't it be interesting if it turned out that for some reason Claire was now evil and/or a threat and that Ethan knew it and had been trying to keep her somewhere she couldn't hurt him/anybody? And now they killed him so they'll never know that! Okay, yeah. It's a stretch. But I think I like the idea of evil Claire. heehee
