Miscellaneous from TORn: Cate, LOST, and Galadriel statue|
-Cate Blanchett won Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes for her role as Kate Hepburn in Aviator! (darn, an LOTR actor movie I missed)
-For you fans of Dominic and LOST in California:
Heaven for TV Fans in LA
2/05/05, 4:16 pm EST - Xoanon
TORN regulars will be interested in the upcoming 2005 William S Paley Television Festival, put on by the Museum of Television and Radio in LA March 2-16. There will be 11 panels on popular TV shows featuring most of the cast of each, including "Lost" (with Dominic Monaghan) and "Deadwood" (including Brad Dourif). Tickets go on sale to members today (Feb. 5), and you can purchase membership with your tickets. General public sales begin Feb. 11, but my guess is that the really popular shows will sell out to members. [More]
-The new Galadriel statue at Sideshow... and the Pippin statue, while we're at it: I'm sorry, but they look just horrible! The faces are just painful to look at. They remind me of the Frodo statue and how badly that turned out. I really admire most of Sideshow/Weta's work, but doesn't anybody sign off on these things? Some are astounding, and some are... sad to look at. *shakes head* And it always seems to happen to the hobbits. My theory is that Weta, being the folks who did the prosthetics, are great at sculpting anybody who wears prosthetics - orcs, dwarves, etc.; but the more "normal" looking ones don't fare as well. Exceptions: Sam, in the Sam and Bill the Pony statue; King Theoden; Gandalf. Am I the only one who thinks this? I was all ready to order Pippin - but when I saw it up close, I couldn't bear to do it. Plus - do they have to show him being scared?? *shakes head* Ah, well!
The LOST thing by MT&R was sold out in less than an hour of tickets going on sale yesterday....
Damn. *sigh* Sorry to hear that!
So I wasn't the only one after all... *sigh*. And I had such high hopes when I saw he was in his Gondorian outfit! As for Billy - he's too polite to say anything bad about it, don't you think?
Yea, I don't think they did a good job on some of the statues. It's much easier to do something that isn't based on something real-such as the Nazgul or the Balrog. When it comes to people it becomes extremely hard to replicate them. I believe they couldhave done a much better job with both the pose of that statue and the outcome of the final. Maybe they'll be better in the future.
Well, I was hoping the same, but... then I saw these two and figured they're not learning. You'd think by now they'd have realized which sculptors are "getting it", and which ones aren't. Ah, well!
*shudder* that Pippin is awful ... what a shame. I couldn't find the Galadriel to look at though. At least i should be getting my Gandy and Shadowfax in a week or so... that's a goodie!
That IS a goodie!
You have such good taste - you have Bill and Sam, and the Balrog - and Gandalf and Shadowfax - three of the best!
Yeah, the Pippin statue is quite strange looking. I do, however, really like my Galadriel and Arwen busts. They are actually quite well done... and, well, you said that the Eowyn statue looks great, so I'll take your word for it since the pictures online aren't really any good.
From what I remember, too, the Gandalf the Grey, King Elessar, and Gimli statues are all quite nice looking.
Yes, actually, the last three are good, and I like the Galadriel bust (which is why it was such a disappointment to see the statue!). Can't remember if I liked the Arwen bust, but her statue was better than i expected.
Yes, as someone above said, the 'Lost' panel sold out immediately. Spookystoy was able to get tickets to Michael Palin who is appearing the night before and I thank her for that.
Michael Palin!!! Terrific! *G*

Yeah, I agree unfortunately, about some of the sculpts. I keep thinking I should buy the Frodo...and then I see the face again and think, "WTF?" Same for the bust.
My thoughts exactly... only too late, since I bought them a while ago!
