Okay, I've been putting this off long enough. *nervous sigh* Don't know what it's so hard to write these things up, but it is! And I figured I could get buy with just supplying the photos and others could do the writing - but I better write up something for myself before I forget.
I've talked a bit about on-line folks I met there, so now I'll just talk about what I remember about the "guys" - *G*.
Autograph memories first! Didn't need them, but they came with the Wizard Ticket (except for Dom - I bought one for myself and one for Tig - *G*). They took place behind the stage backdrop, and you stood in line along a wall of the auditorium, not seeing the actor until you got close - so no chance for pics... awwwwww.
Dom: Gave him pics of "Charlie on a Rock" that I printed out to sign. I asked him if he designed his own suits or not, like the ones with the stencils - *G*. He said he didn't do the one he was wearing, but he had done others. (*pumps arm - I was right - whooooot!* *L*) BTW... the one he was wearing? Was a suit, with a shiny substance painted down it in stripes and... I kid you not... brown dirt rubbed into little spots here and there, on purpose. (can I get a confirmation on that from others?!) *sigh* Those crazy artist types. *S*
Billy, Elijah, and Sean were on one long table, their backs to the back of the backdrop of the stage. (Yes, I meant to say it that way. *G*) And, girls? STEVE was there! *nods vigorously* Yes! STEVE of GenCon! *ggl* I even called out his name when I got close. Poor guy - looked nonplussed, then asked how many more of us there were in line. I had to inform him I was row C and I know that it went to at least row I - and then the extra tickets. His eyes got a bit wide and he went out to check it out for himself. *G* He looked great, and fit, and just as gay as ever, the sweetheart. *S*
Billy: As we waited, he was talking on the phone with Dom - something about where to eat, and he might be late. He was also drawing a little picture on the white tablecloth with the gold, silver, green, and black signing pens - a cottage in the country, I think. (you'll see a photo much later) Very mellow and enjoying himself quietly. I had him (and Elijah and Sean) sign the photos of their video game characters from GenCon (THANK YOU, HannColl, for Pippin - thank you so much). He smiled a little and studied it.
(imagine this with me talking rather quickly to fit this in, but not take too much time!)
Me: "I had a chance to talk with you at the dinner at the London Expo the year before last, and made a mistake about what happened to Bonden in Master and Commander - and was so embarassed that I went and read the whole series. They're wonderful books, some of the best I've ever read. Thank you for getting me to read them."
Billy: "Really? What was the mistake you made?"
Me: *G* "I was trying to pull you into the conversation we were having with Craig Parker, and said I thought you had a "dying scene" in the movie, like the one he had in LOTR - and you didn't."
Me (again, handing him a "Guster" CD)- "and I wanted to thank you for all the great music you've recommended; I thought you'd enjoy this"
Billy: (looking it over) "Thanks! I've not heard this."
Me (really rushing now - darn!): "And - one question - will you be doing a play this year?"
Billy: "I really hope to!"
Me: (I really should have moved along, but...!) "But.. do you know if you will?"
Billy: "No, not yet"
Me: "Thank you very much"
(and after all of that, I couldn't also ask to shake his hand... *sigh* too bad! I really was pushing it, after all...)
Next, Elijah; don't recall if he stared at the photo or not - being a gamegeek, you'd think he'd be intrigued, though... *S*
Me: "I just wanted to say how thrilled I am that "Chain of Fools" is finally out on DVD; it's a great and funny film. Everybody I know who's seen it has loved it."
Elijah: "Oh, that's great!"
Me: "I just hope you can get it played on cable; I bet it will become a great cult classic. And thank you" *shook hands* (and he does have a nice firm grip... *S*)
Finally, Sean - and this was for Catw, the head of the German website for Sean Astin. I handed Sean the photo to sign, and then held out a piece of paper with info on Cat's site and the postcards -
Me: "There's a German website for Sean Astin fans, and I know that they'd love to have you come over and do a book-signing for your book - in fact, they sent 200 postcards from individuals to your agent to ask you to come, saying "There and Back Again - but not yet to Germany!". I hope that if you travels take you to Europe, that you'll consider doing a signing in Germany" *handing him the paper*
Sean, with an earnest smile, of course: "I'd really like to do that - thank you!" *turning to Steve* "Can you hold on to this for me?"
Me: "Thank you very much."
Whew! As usual, I'm too shy to do anything personal in these... but at least I got to get a question answered by Dom, say my thanks to Billy, give him a gift, and ask him about doing a play, give Elijah praise for Chain of Fools (which IS coming out on Amazon.com in February - GET IT!), and help out Cat and the German fans. Missions accomplished! *bows*
Good grief I'm talky.
