Little more digging on "National Treasure"
I jumped to conclusions in my last update, out of a sort of visceral reaction of surprise, so I feel I owe some more digging on it, to be fair...:

Here's one comment I've seen, from JoBlo:

"NATIONAL TREASURE opens wide on November 19th and I'm still not sure what to make of it. It's backed by producer Jerry Bruckheimer and starring Nicolas Cage, which brings back memories of CON AIR and THE ROCK, which were both "fun rides", but not necessarily classics. This one looks like it might also offer up some corn with its pop, and likely to fall somewhere between the very bad of TOMB RAIDER to the very good of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK...at least, let's hope it does. The most fascinating thing to me about the film are its co-stars with Angelina Jolie's dad in the mix (Jon Voight), the stern patriarch from THE SOUND OF MUSIC (Christopher Plummer), Harvey Keitel (wow, where you been, dude?), the retarded kid from GIGLI (let's face it...he was good in that film), Helen of TROY herself (Diane Kruger) as well as Boro-f*ckin-Mir himself (Sean Bean)." (*ggl* at Sean Bean's nickname)

Will it be any good?

Photos of Sean in the movie, and behind the scenes (damn, his hair looks gooooood!):

JoBlo predicts it to be a solid-looking flick (7 popcorns out of 10):

So, we'll wait and see. Similar collaborations resulted in "The Rock" and "Con Air" - popular, but not films I liked. Still sounds inspired by the Da Vinci Code (as one person put it, an Americanized version), but apparently this has been in development for 5 years, which I believe pre-dates that book. Between this movie and the book, though, there certainly is more interested in the Knights Templar and the Masons...

Well, we can hope... the previews look like crap, IMO.

Hey!! Are you saying I'm not eloquent?

Well, all right. I'm blunt.

ParkaSean! Mmm.

Yes indeed, the preview made me squirm in dismay. Wish Nic Cage would spit out the pebbles he seems to be speaking through and just... talk. Gah.
It does seem to be riding the coattails of the DaVinci Code frenzy. I felt I had read it before - too many Holy Blood, Holy Grail-type books in my past. And I have an Illuminati card game somewhere...
