So, anyway, how dense AM I?

Here I've been watching "Chuck" all season and thinking that the CIA guy looks familiar... and it only just hit me that that's because it's JANE! Jane from "Firefly"! Adam Baldwin (no relation to the other Baldwins, thank god!). Wow... I just looked him up in imdb to be sure, and he was born in Chicago... almost on my birthday... and he's only 2 years younger. Whooooot!!!! Damn, he aged well! *sigh* Too bad he's taken. I guess the suit and the clean-shaven look threw me off. Anyway - cool!

The quote in the subject is from someplace completely different - anybody recognize?

Also, I saw The Golden Compass and it was pretty good. Really well-made, but they didn't accompish the script-miracle that LOTR did; you could really feel the missing pieces. I'd read the book; I'm curious how others who hadn't read the book felt. The casting was excellent, though.

WTF - just saw an ad for Supernatural where Santa Claus... is a torturer?

p.s. Did they change LJ? I thought "View Friends Page" was under "Friends", but now it says "Filter Friends".

p.p.s. Yesterday was Dom's birthday and I forgot? Told you I was dense! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DOMINAC PATRICK BERNARD LUKE MONAGHAN!!!! (I'm sure I got that wrong!)

Finally, a really funny and creative version of the 12 Days of Christmas, from IU, which I saw posted by arevanye:

Yay for "Chuck"! I love that show. Totally hooked here.

Yeah, LJ's had quite a few changes. Like it got sold to another company. You might want to read up on it. I'm still trying to figure it all out myself.

I saw "Sweeney Todd" today. I'll go out on a limb and say it's excellent but very dark and bloody.

*gasp* You got to see it ALREADY?!?!?! Oooooo!!!!

You liked it then - good to hear!

BTW - had you seen the one with George Hearn and Angela Lansbury (if I have the names right), did you like that?

I really liked it. A special screening in Seattle. No, I hadn't seen the earlier movie but I did see Angela Lansbury in the stage play in about 1980. A really good musical. This current movie is that Sondheim version.

Have you seen any of the movies or plays?

Ah, good. Yes, I saw the movie of the play that I was referring to, and it was incredible. That's why I was curious to know if you'd seen it, too, or if you didn't have something like it to compare to.

Have you seen The Golden Compass yet?

Jayne would probably kill you (with Vera) if he caught you misspelling his name like that ... *g*

They re-jigged all the menus - to view your friends page just click on "Friends" at the top of the menu. Ditto profile.

*ggl* Yes, he WOULD! Guess I didn't see his name written down very much.

Ah - thank you!

Say, am I the only one bothered by the fact that you can no longer just enter in a person's name at the top to read them - you have to log in first? Doesn't that sort of keep people OUT of LJ?

You don't have to be logged in to read a non-locked journal, or even to use the site search - the problem is getting access to the search box from the main LJ page. If you have a journal bookmarked in your browser you can still get there without logging on. Alternatively, if the journal owner has enabled the navigation toolbar you can use that.

"the problem is getting access to the search box from the main LJ page" - exactly! Hmmm... I don't usually bookmark LJ pages. But, yes - it used to be that if I wanted to visit somebody's LJ without going to my own, I could just type their name in at the front. So odd that they took that out.

For example, what if you told a friend "hey, I'm on LJ - want to check me out?" - how would they find you?

"You didn't hear about the Polar Bear" is Charlie to Michael (I think) from LOST...or were you asking about the buds, suds and inebriation quote?
That one I can't help you with!

So you sound pretty chipper, the holidays must be good for you so far!

Can't see the YouTube...tells me its been removed. Sadness. :(

*L*! I was asking about the suds, etc., but you're right - that's Charlie!

I'll confess - the suds quote is from "Family Guy" when they do a takeoff on "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" at a brewery; it's a parody of "Pure Imagination"... *G*

Eek! Removed? I wonder why! *sad*

Not to worry, Santa is still Santa. Apparently in the Supernatural universe, though, a pagan demon dresses up as him this week. I'm intrigued.

Don't forget the "Bad Day At Black Rock" episode is next week! :)

I read the books and loved the movie. I agree with your assessments. The casting was terrific and really matched how I read the characters and envisioned them, excepting Lord Asriel. I saw someone more snarling and Byronicly grand for him--not a guy with an open face and a tweed suit--someone with Jeremy Irons like presence. but everyone else was perfect. I loved Kathy Bates voicing Hester, and Kate Bush singing at the end--yay!!!

I heard that same reaction from somebody else about Asriel: "I thought he'd be bigger!" Hester... was that the jackrabbit? That was great - *G*. So that's who that was - Kate Bush!!! I was wondering why she sounded so familiar.

Question is: will the other 2 movies get made? I mean, the little girl has to be growing up!
