Band: 30 Seconds to Mars (30STM)
Where: Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago, baby!!!!
When: August 6, 2006
Why you should see them: lilithlotr and kisahawklin introduced me to them; kisa was a Jared Leto fan and lilith talked about them so much in her journal that I gave their album "A Beautiful Lie" a listen (which one of you sent that to me?). Jared Leto happens to be the lead singer and creative force behind the group. And, on the first listen to the CD, I really got into the first songs, which is rare for me, especially since it's not the kind of sound I go for - a bit goth, a bit heavy metal, a bit glam; screaming mixed with passionate singing, angry guitar mixed with aching melody. Always hard to describe music, but I think you'd like them, gayalithiel and freakspawn. And then I saw them at The Metro in Chicago earlier this year. Whoa. Jared Leto just comes alive onstage - he's like an angelic demon, singing, exhorting the audience, spinning, ice blue eyes staring out of smudged eyeliner eyes. His brother Shannon is the drummer - incredibly talented; the rest of the group is made up of a bassist and a drummer, and they are tight, tight, tight. They have a core group of very loyal fans, the Echelon, and they and the band really get into concerts, dressing for them, and having a hell of a time.
Where and when YOU can see them: In Cincinnati THIS SUNDAY as headliners (August 13, 2006
