What a great concert by 30 Seconds to Mars (lead by Jared Leto)! I was so damn impressed with the guys. What really helped were the CD's kisahawklin sent me. I listened to them for the first time on the way up to Chicago - "Beautiful Lie" first, and the other second. I liked BL much better, and that's mostly what they played - and I recognized the songs! Damn, they were good - they were charismatic, it was moving music, the fans got into it, and it was blast to watch and hear. They dressed all in white this time - the same way they asked the fans to dress - with no wild makeup. Jared looked good; Shannon (his brother, and an amazing drummer) looked even better. The crowd and venue (The Metro!) were amazing. The guys had to go run off to Toronto to shoot their video, so we were told at one point that there would be no autographs, and they would go on first, and not to expect interaction at the bus. Fortunately the first two points were wrong, and that was enough to make the fact that they couldn't talk outside the bus not so disappointing for the fans. (Plus, it probably wouldn't have been good for them to go out there in the cold and talk a lot!).
So, yes, I'm a fan now. Not a "stand in line for 8 hours the next time them come to town" fan, but a "if they came to town or a town nearby I'd definitely buy tix" fan. lilithlotr wanted to be in front (which was important, because she wanted to be able to get good photos), so we got there at about 4:30 for an 11:30 concert, spent the first couple of hours walking around, and the rest of the time standing in line in the COLD (in the 30's). Cool group of people, and the band had a videographer getting a group of them (us) to talk on camera about being fans. I'd told lilithlotr that my first impression of 30STM was that they came across as Duran Duran + The Cure + ... somebody harder - I've heard people mention Incubus and Staind, but I don't know them) - and damned if they didn't play the best of The Cure during the break between the two bands! *L*! And it's pretty surprising that I like them, since it's harder music than I usually like (probably more like your tastes, freakspawn), but because they're so good, I did. And most of the fans were great - I loved seeing how everybody decorated their outfits; lilithlotr's jacket was gorgeous. In fact, it all reminded me a lot of other fandoms, like LOTR and CoRo. Oh! And lilithlotr went to go see Shannon when he came out briefly beforehand (yes, I was going "go, go, go!"... *G*), and she got her jacket signed! Yay! And she let me stay at her place, which was great of her.
Spent last night feeling just a little less than "like hell" - ears and nose congested, but not feeling like my head was kicked in, since I slept for a few hours after getting home. Didn't get to bed until about 4 am due to the lateness of the concert, and got up about noon, and drove home. Hope I didn't catch anything - don't know if the congestion is something I caught, or from the cold, or something I was allergic to. Hopefully it's not long-lived. Wild storms passed through Indianapolis, but it was after I got home, and didn't get a tornado in my neighborhood. Hoping that the big concert they had in downtown Indy (free concert because of the Final Four being here) didn't get cancelled because of it.
Wow.. the news said there were 80 mph gusts... and blown out windows in some of the skyscrapers... blown down signs, signposts... debris all over downtown Indy... wow. I was very lucky. Thank god I wasn't driving through it!
So - check out 30STM's new album - especially gayalithiel and freakspawn! I think they're right up your alley. Apparently they played with Prodigy last year in Chicago.
