*meep!*
I just saw the ad for tonight's LOST. Could somebody please come over here and hold me? I'm afraid Charlie's going to do something very bad and very stupid. *whimper*

What follows is my stream-of-consciousness babbling:

Rockstar Charlie... so cute looking at the baby - so damn cute. YES - this is more like Dom! And his reaction to the baby - so beautiful. Damn, Liam really got bad. Dom - just looks beautiful. *S*

Whoops... time for Charlie to have his Island Hallucination. So, he CAN swim, after all! WTF... this can't be real, can it? Must be a wish-fulfillment thing. Oh, lord... is he taking heroin? Wow... look at the Reaissance look of it all - and Hurley, too?

Oh... holy... fuck... What is he doing with the baby????? Did he take it during a drug fix or not? Is he on it or not? Was it sleepwalking? Oh, god, poor Charlie - especially if it wasn't heroin! Dammit - tell us if he's on it or not!

Damn... he's on it - or he wouldn't be lying. God, the guy doing Liam is looking terribly realistic. YAY - guys in - DIAPERS???? *L*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hell, now Billy's got nothing on Dom! In the space of one year, both he and Billy prance around in underwear.

Good lord - they're using the washing machine!!! *L*!!!!!

*ggl* Hurley - you're so cute! Does he know here from somewhere? That would be... interesting...! Huh - she does seem to be pulling something. "It's awesome." *S*

"Bald wanker knows something..." Well, I'm glad Charlie can talk to somebody, finally. If not Locke, then Ecko. "What are you doing to save the baby?" Ah... baptize the baby. Damn, but the way he's acting does not help. Somebody said that Ecko is this season's Locke; I wonder if they're opposites.

*epiphany*

Remember Locke's game, with the black and white pieces?

Well, they're both men of faith - but what if they're different faiths? What if Charlie gets used between them?

Well, here comes the inevitable.

Love how he's wearing exactly the same kind of shirts Dom actually likes to wear.

Ah - here's where the flashback links in... Liam kicked out by his wife because she thinks Liam is dangerous around the baby because of the drugs. Is this when Liam decides to get clean?

God, he really can't sing. Good song, though. Good to see that music still gets Liam excited. "Together no, we can be saved". He's going to ask for drugs... damn it.

Damn it - Locke didn't give him a chance to make a decision. God damn him. This is his test, and he's right. He needs to do this himself.

I wonder if he has another stash. I wonder if he's going to go AWOL and exile himself from the others - perhaps join The Others.

Oh, fuck. John's talking to Claire. Wow... I wonder if Locke is trying to take Charlie's place?

Let's see what Locke says about the baptism. Thank god Lock doesn't show Claire the statues. "Charlie just feels that he has to sae the baby, because he can't save himself." Oh, damn... Charlie's going to start a fire so he can "rescue" the baby and be a hero. God damn him I don't BELIEVE IT! Worse - maybe he's going to kidnap it? It's a diversion?

Sayeed's going to know who started it!

Why, Charlie? Why are you going to kidnap it?

Oh, god... Liam sold his piano? God, Charlie really is alone, isn't he? No wonder he's lost. Liam did the right thing to go to Australia, but, with no real explanation? God, what's Charlie doing? Baptizing the baby? Oh, how terrible. "This is not the way?" God, he's lost it. "Neither are you, Charlie." "You're hurting me, Charlie." Oh, poor Charlie. He's so damn lost. I wouldn't be surprised it he ran out into the ocean and drowned himself. Fuck, Locke. God, they're all going to treat him like a pariah. This... is going to be interesting. Will he become a ghost? Become a wreck? Become evil? Or what? What do you do when you're exiled from the only society you can belong to? I'm pretty sure he's going to go the Others - out of anger, and a need to belong somewhere.

Wonder what Jack is going to say to him. At least Charlie is honest with him - I think. Very realistic suturing. And at least Jack will still treat him.

Baptism.

Maybe it's Charlie who needs baptising.

I wonder if Charlie will be allowed to watch the baptisim. Ah, good - it's private.

Interesting... why is Locke keeping the drugs? For use in knocking people out for surgery?

Damn that hood... he's isolating himself, making himself cold in his heart, isn't he?

Previews: Nothing clear, but enough to keep me watching.

I thought the exact same thing. This episode just stood everything on its ear, for me. Very reminiscent of last season--kept me scratching my head but had me totally involved. I couldn't believe Locke punched Charlie--three times, no less!!

Poor guy is so desperate for a family, isn't he?

Not liking Locke so much this week. He had that "creepy guy" expression again, that he hasn't had for a long time.

Good point about the "creepy guy" expression. What's driving him? Why the punching - it didn't quite seem to be out of anger; more of a "you're about to ruin everything!" kind of reaction. What is Locke planning?

I second everything you say. My head hurts.

And... Dom... in a diaper? I think it's going to take me a while to recover from that...!

Exactly! Oh, good comparison there, with Ana.

But I think it goes to show what a pariah drug use makes you, even there on the island. They realize that an addict doesn't know what he's doing when he's on drugs (remember the baby in "Trainspotting"), but, even worse, how he'll do anything to get/protect his fix. And, right now, he looks like a potential baby killer - as if he were about to drown little Aaron.

I keep wishing he'd had the chance to hit rockbottom and burn/destroy the drugs himself - and so I get angry at Locke for denying him that. But then I have to remind myself of the fact that Charlie could have redeemed himself so many times before: by not taking the drugs from the plane in the first place or by destroying them any time before that.

So the theme apparently is: why doesn't Charlie try to save himself? Which is ironic, because Charlie is rather self-centered. Perhaps it's more of a "why doesn't Charlie hold himself to the same standards he holds others to?". He thinks he has to save everybody else, and the ends justify the means. And then, when he can't save them (like Liam), he goes into a dark place of self-hate, and degrades himself by taking drugs. If he'd just stop and think for once, instead of going from one extreme to the other.

Okay. I'm going to stop now - my head hurts - *L*! Thanks for letting me rant here.

I know. I think it wasn't so much like the people passing by somebody suffering (that they don't know) as much as it is, that they were scared to "let him back in".

I mean, he's like a loaded gun. Whoever extends a hand to him and helps him is now responsible for him - and will get punished for anything wrong he does. Guilt by association, as well. It would look like they're condoning somebody who would go so far as to endanger a baby.

As they said, if he'd just been quiet and acted normal for a while, it might not have come to this. But with the dreams, how could he? Then again, it was pure Charlie to jump to conclusions, rather than sit down and think about what the dreams really meant.

I don't know... Certainly Abrams likes Dom and is giving him a fantastic chance here. I do think Charlie's so self-centered that sometimes it's only his sweet smile that keeps me from wanting to choke him - *G*. I do hope there isn't a backlash from too much emphasis on Charlie. And he does need to change in order to keep being interesting. Whether it's changing to a black hole of a character (i.e., joins the Others) or changes to somebody who's learned from his experience, I don't know.

Oh - had another thought about Hurley and the woman. What if she recognizes him as the multi-million dollar winner? After all, he was on TV. The other thought is that she may be a manipulative person who sees him as somebody she can manipulate with a little flirting. We'll have to see...

Am I the only one who finds it strange that most of the people STILL don't know about the button, or about the recent encounter with the Others? Especially the latter? Damn - for such a small group, there certainly is a lack of trust and communication!

Oh - and I was thinking the same thing: Ecko is a backwards Locke (almost). But the idea that Libby might know Hurley from the asylum never occurred to me! Interesting.

I cried for Charlie too. His need for family was so heartfelt. The look on his face as he held that baby at the end was just wretching to me.
I think Dom really showed us that he has range as an actor in this episode. In fact, this was the sort of acting that should get him a nomination.

As sad as it was for Charlie, I agree that it was a great episode for Dom, thank heaven! The folks at LOST really do love Dom. *S*

Next time the Emmy noms are read, I hope to hear "For best supporting actor in a drama, from LOST, Dominic Monaghan. From LOST, Matthew Fox. From LOST, Naveen Andrews...." etc., etc. How many can they nominate? :-) Even my 81-year old mother loves this show, and was deeply impressed by Dom last night. He really shone.

*applauds* I worry that they'll have Charlie turn to the Others, and go completely dark. My hope is that he'll learn and grow instead, and become a more complex character for Dom to play.

Hi Ros,

I'm the gal who won the happi coat at the charity brunch and fondled your jacket on the shuttle to the airport. You're a doll, what can I say. I really enjoyed our chat. Anyway, I just watched this episode and I feel so bad for Charlie. Honestly, I was really not liking him lately, but this ep really made me understand him better. I wonder what the ultimate fallout from his behavior will be. I'm a sucker for redemption so I really hope he's taken back into the fold. Poor baby. :(

Oh, friend me if you'd like--Christina

Eee! A Billy bum icon! *S*

Hi - good to hear from you! I thought that LJ name sounded familiar. I'm so hoping he can find redemption, too... but I could also see him turning traitor and going to the Others. *shudder* I just don't know if he has the strength to handle having everybody turn their back on him. He needs somebody to guide him.

Thanks for commenting! I was just thinking about you and other people whose names I wasn't sure I got, and wondering how I'd found them - thanks! Don't forget to check out "ORC2006" for reports, etc.

Hope Glen/Glenda made it back safely - still love that Billy wrote "made in japan" on his arm. Did he think of that himself? And am I the only one wondering why it wasn't on there in the first place? *G*

Glad you like the Billy bum icon. He's got a cute one. :D About Charlie going to the "Others" I don't see it because they seem to be very selective about who they choose. Remember the guy who spied on the 'tailies' said that the survivor he killed 'wasn't a good person.' Besides, Charlie doesn't have any info or special skills that would make him useful as a traitor. He totally needs someone to guide him.

Glen got home safe, but made quite a splash at the airport. Everyone was looking at him and a couple of people thought he was a ventriloquist dummy. The seat next to me on the plane was unoccupied, so I belted Glen in for the whole trip. If only all children were that quiet on planes. I know Billy signed at least one Glen before mine, so I don't know if 'made in Japan' was his idea or theirs. Very cool in any event.

Yes... as to the Billy bum, the phrase that's been used to describe Billy - "small but perfectly formed" - really fits. *G* Okay, actually it's almost non-existent, but...!

Huh... good point about the Others... but he does know the community very well, so they might use him for the info he could provide - and then dispose of him. Especially if they do go to war.

Lucky Glen. *S*
