Sorry, pooh and freakspawn... I didn't make it to CoRo!
Got home in the middle of the day and took a 1 hour nap before heading on down to Louisville... and just didn't have the energy to get up - and I was bloody tired of driving. I decided it wasn't meant to be - sorry, no second-hand squee! I'm hoping you'll get some from the website. Now, if it had been a place that allowed photos... *G*

So, here's some of what I'm been up to, good news an bad.

Bad news first: Been facing the possibility of going on without my dearest cat. His jaw has been getting dislocated now and again over the past coule of months - and now it won't go back, and part of his jaw is broken. He's perfectly fine otherwise, there's no obvious break, and he acts perfectly normal... except his mouth hangs open slightly, he can't close it, and his teeth are misaligned. But there doesn't appear to be anything the vet can do. I'm going to see if they can put a pin in his jaw, but all I hear is that they can wire it up - which means supporting the lower jaw by wiring it to the upper, which means a feeding tube - which I won't do. And, at his age (16), they don't expect his jaw would heal - which is the whole purpose of wiring it up. He must be in pain, but he doesn't show it - seems to want to ignore it. So, if he's happy, I should be happy. It's just hard to do, seeing him like this.

Good news: I went up Friday night to see "Green Street Hooligans" and meet up with psyknife, lilithlotr and Morgan, and all the folks that lilith got together. Afraid we were only a small band, but there were some free giveaways (rubber wristbands, stickers, etc.), and, more importantly, it was a good movie! Really! In fact, it completes the trifecta of "movies with slashy male pairings and violence", which began with "Gangster No. 1", continued with "Fight Club", and now we get to see Elijah and Charlie Hunnan as "buddies" who have been seduced by the lure of fraternal bonding and violence, and another bloke as Charlie's best friend who - yes - is jealous. *G* Okay, so the slashiness is all an undertone - but not a very subtle one - *L*! Really thought it was great - but not for anybody who can't handle a few bloody fistfights. I'm torn as to whether or not Elijah was good or not - it's so hard to be objective or not. He's always good, and I loved watching him... but he seems too much like he actually in real life - does that mean it's good acting or not?

Saw Tig and Morgan's apartment, and they were NOT exaggerating - it's HUGE! Hell, their main room is probably as big as my first floor! Morgan's got a normal sized bedroom, Tig's got a very long one, there's another room in their closet, a little hallway to put bikes in - and even though they've only been their a week, it's all completely moved into!!! Posters on the wall, collections everywhere, furniture... he11, I think I was 40 before I had a place so put together. *S* Thank you both for letting me stay, and getting to watch the Stephen Lynch video.

Then, on top of that, I got to visit my favorite prairie in the morning! So alive and in bloo, so much life, with clouds of monarchs, and goldfinches every where. I got my first ever chance at photographing a gorgeous big preying mantis, as well as a gorgeous caterpillar, and I saw a nest of baby birds (but not photographable), the fringed gentians are in bloom.

So I drove home and collapsed on my sofa... and woke up about 5 hours later. Only to find waaaaaay too many posts to keep up with! And have now contributed my own overly long one! *G*

*smooches your fuzzy gray kitty*

Thanks. I've been trying to prepare myself for the last year, but when I realized after talking to the vet that there just might be no solution... my knees went weak, and I went numb. I just can't imagine coming home without my boy to hug. I guess there's really no way to describe it, but to imagine him here for 16 years, and then, suddenly, beyond my reach? Unimaginable.

My heart goes out to you and your kitty. If it seems he's doing okay with the situation it might be best to just let him continue as is without the surgery, especially at 16. If it's really bothering him, I think he'll let you know. And you'd certainly see signs in his eating habits, I think. But I know it must be incredibly hard to watch. *hugs from me and Gabby*

I think you might be right. I make a gruel out of canned food and lactose-free milk and he laps it up happily, but I'm not sure how much he eats - he tends to eat a little, then go off. I just keep thinking, can't they just put a darn pin in there, quick and easy, to hold his jaw together? But I'm sure it's neither quick nor easy - and may be impossible. But thank you, and thanks, Gabby.

Today, for example, he loved all over me as I was getting up, and acted perfectly normal. I don't know how he tolerates the pain, but he does!

Aw, thanks about the kitty... I know you know what I'm going through, since yours had to have a pin in its hip, right? *shudders* I can't imagine what it was like seeing Frodo when she had had her accident! And you're very welcome - you saved me the cost and eye-rolling-boredom of a hotel room - *L*! And the prairie... was awesome. Well worth getting up early for.

Still hoping for you and your job - hope you hear good news, and hear it soon!

It sounded like you needed some hugs. It's hard to see someone you love get sick, whether they have two feet or four. {sympathetic Smile, GREAT BIG LONG TIGHT ROCKING SQUEEZE}

*more hugs* for your boy and you .. I don't think cats are particularly good at hiding pain ... if they are not happy you know about it immediately.

(If you HAD actually made the show I would have fallen off this here chair in shock :P!)

Man, you are really finding some cooool icons! *S*

I wish that was right about pain... I've read the opposite - that they are very good at hiding it, because it's fatal to show weakness in the wild! I hope you're right, though. *S*

:P :P :P!!!!! I was THIS far *holds thumb and forefinger a millimeter apart* from going!!!! Guess I'm getting oooooold, though - my legs actually hurt from driving! O.O! Seriously. At which point, doing another 3 hours that day, and having to find a hotel, and spending the night in a hotel (I'm very averse to hotels lately, I've found) was just sooooo unappealing.

And, on the good side, my boy cat was very, very lovey this morning, which I would have missed, had I gone!

it's a pretty one isn't it *G*

well all my cats (well just 5 of them) have never read the right websites then ;) I don't mean they necessarily yowl about it - they just go quiet and dull eyed or try to hide away.

yeah yeah I believe you *s* very understandable though :)

Was listening to a CoRo CD that Aliste made for me (one of hobbitgrrl's friends who came down for TMBG, who records concerts, so she copied the TMBG concert for me AND threw in CoRo as the opening act for 3 concerts) - and it made me so sad that I had to miss it! I love those guys.

I D, though I think it has been releases with the name Undercover in some places. Tis about a group of policemen who go undercover and try to infiltrate a gang of hooligans. And how they get sucked into the lifestyle.

Tis excellent!

I know - but he's a healthy 16!

I hope it does better than Friday's turnout suggests. Chicago's two newspapers were mixed: Ebert was thumbs-up, the other was thumbs-down.
